Starting things off right with ... GIRLS NIGHT

This past Friday, Erin and I hosted our first "Girls Night." Girls Night is something that started during my internship here last summer as a way for the girls to get out of the house for a little while. (They always love coming upstairs to the apartment.) Erin and I made nachos and chocolate covered pretzals. The theme of the night was "Getting to Know You" and we used this theme to introduce the idea of having Bible studies.

We played three different icebreaker type games. For the first game, the girls had a list of 20 different things to look for, like someone who wanted four kids, someone who could name the 12 disciples, someone who was wearing the same color underwear, etc. Once they found another girl who fit the category, the girl would sign their paper. The goal was to be the first one to have a paper full of 20 signatures.
The next game was the well-known "two truths and a lie," where the girls had to write down three things about themselves and then we had to guess the lie. The girls enjoyed the last game we played the most. There was one girl who stood in the middle and the rest were seated in a circle. The girl in the middle had to say something she had done and anyone who had done the same thing had to run to sit in a new spot. The person who couldn't find a seat was in the middle. The girls really got into this game - there was a lot of pushing, yelling, falling, and chaos because no one wanted to be in the middle. Erin and I finally decided it was best to end the game before someone got hurt!
After the girls had settled down a little, Erin explained how the object of the games was to get to know each other better, but that the person we really need to spend our time getting to know is God. She told the girls that one of the main reasons her and I are here is to help them grow spiritually; then she talked about our plan for girls Bible studies. I passed out pieces of paper and pens and had the girls write down whether or not they were interested and which night would be best for them. The majority of the girls are interested in being part of a small group, but there are a few who aren't. My prayer is that God continues to draw them closer to Him and soften their hearts. Bible studies start next week and I can't wait to see what God is going to do!
